For many, if not most watch enthusiasts, subtle watches with probably two colors or three are the way to go. But, anything more than that is a no-no. So, this new Hublot Big Bang is likely way out of your league. However, if you would like to experiment a little and go bold with colors, we suggest starting with this colorful wristwatch, studded with gems all over.

The Big Bang Unico and the New Full Baguette King Gold Rainbow

Hublot is a Swiss luxury brand founded by Italian Carlo Crocco in 1980. Its first launch made history in watchmaking when it made an unlikely pairing out of gold and rubber. When businessman Jean-Claude Biver was appointed CEO of the brand in 2004, it was experiencing a sales plateau. But, he reignited the public interest with a new flagship collection: the Big Bang. It was introduced in 2005 in the form of the Hublot Big Bang Chronograph.

The watch was an immediate success and it propelled the brand to great heights and has not come down since. It received several recognitions and acclamation from watch fans that it has been regarded as one of the most coveted timepieces within its range. It was ranked alongside the likes of Rolex, Omega, and Audemars Piguet.

Since then, the brand has released several other Hublot Watches under the Big Bang collection and the latest of its kind is the high-jewelry Big Bang Unico that fully embraces the brightest and boldest of colors. Like its predecessors, it banks on the brand’s illustrious history and reputation for integrating high-end finishing and craftsmanship with futuristic aesthetics.

The new reference from Hublot is the perfect standout accessory for any time of the year. It’s a flamboyant display of rainbow-colored gemstones on an 18K pink gold base.

Case

The most dramatic element of this Hublot watch is its 45mm case that is rendered in the proprietary 18K King Gold alloy and encrusted with 100 precious stones in colors ruby, pink sapphire, amethyst, blue sapphire, blue topaz, tsavorite, yellow sapphire, and orange sapphire. Altogether, these stones create a continuous spectrum without any interruption to the pattern. There is also an additional 112 baguette-cut gemstones mounted around the polished bezel, enclosed with a sapphire display caseback that offers an uninterrupted view of the movement within.

Dial

As a continuation of the case pattern, the Rainbow watch features a skeleton dial that accentuates the matte King Gold framework with 48 additional gemstones around the chronograph subdials and hour indices. These add a colorful contrast to the black bridges of the movement below.

Movement

Hublot powers this eye-catching reference with its in-house manufactured UNICO automatic flyback chronograph movement. It is a double-clutch and column wheel-equipped movement that packs a robust 72-hour power reserve—the same movement that powers most of the Big Bang line.

Bracelet

While most gem-encrusted watches use a matching bracelet, Hublot takes quite a different route by opting for a rainbow gradient alligator leather strap, lined with black rubber. It ends with a King Gold and black plated titanium buckle with 30 more colorful gemstones.

Pricing

All the gemstones and precious metals used in the Hublot Big Bang Unico Full Baguette King Gold Rainbow command a whopping retail price of $348,000. While its loud and far-from-subtle appeal is not to everyone’s taste, the watch has this kind of undeniable charisma that would have you considering it.

The Continued Success of the Big Bang

Since its 2005 Basel release, the Big Bang has undergone updates in line with the brand’s passion for unconventionality. We have seen Hublot introduce new Big Bang watches with innovative materials like a lightweight alloy or the brand’s proprietary, scratch-resistant 18K gold alloy called Magic Gold.

Fast forward to the present, the Big Bang remains the cornerstone of the brand. The release of the King Gold Rainbow came at the heels of the unveiling of the three new Big Bang models in celebration of the line’s 10th anniversary in 2015.

These included the Big Bang Unico with the in-house UNICO movement, the Big Bang Tourbillon 5-Day Power Reserve Indicator, and the Big Bang in Full Magic Gold. These watches pay homage to the line’s core design and reflect the brand’s continuous efforts to push beyond the limits of traditional watchmaking.

If you’re looking for a sign to introduce color to your watch collection, the new Big Bang Unico Full Baguette King Gold Rainbow may be it. Its colorful features from the dial down to the straps make a nice touch if you’re into monochromatic watches. Plus, the gemstones surrounding most of its surface can certainly add glam to your outfit.
